LODGE OF FREEDOM 77
FREEMASONRY
The Lodge of Freedom was founded in July 1751 and the title or denomination “Freedom” was adopted on the 16th of April 1789. The designation of the title “Freedom” was an expression of the sentiment prevailing in that age. The Freedom ritual and workings are unique and for some years the Lodge worked outside the jurisdiction of the 2 Grand Lodges of the time. When the United Grand Lodge (UGL) was formed in 1813 an allegiance was formed when it was agreed that Freedom could keep their own workings. As a result, the Freedom Past Masters Jewel bares the arms of the UGL of England, making the Jewel unique in Masonry. Being the oldest Kentish Lodge, we are very proud of our history and its unique ritual.
The Lodge of Freedom 77 was founded with a vision of creating a community where principles of freedom, integrity, and brotherhood could thrive. Established in Gravesend, Kent, the lodge began as a small gathering of like-minded individuals who were committed to the Masonic values of charity, personal growth, and community service.
Over the years, the lodge has grown, drawing members from diverse backgrounds united by a shared dedication to these ideals. Today, the Lodge of Freedom 77 stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Freemasonry, fostering camaraderie and positive change within the community.
